Zack Greinke Wins The Cy Young Awards And Recounts It’s Downsides

New York, Nov. 18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Zack Greinke was the winner of the American League Cy Young Award on Tuesday. The win against Felix Fernandez left him rather unusually tongue tied, even by the standards of the characteristically shy Kansas City Royals ace. The Baseball Writers Association of America awarded Greinke with tree seconds for 134 points and he got 25 votes out of the 28 in the first place poll. Zack’s season had been a rather mixed one, while he lacked in wins, he certainly dominated the field.
Zack was clearly not expecting to win, very evident from the fact that he did not receive the call that gave him the good news. It was only when he registered the number that he called back and heard the news. He is left with mixed feelings about the spectacular victory. While he revels in the glory, the naturally shy ace Royals player hopes it would not bestow on him a lot of unwanted attention. He admits to being comfortable in the fact that back at Kansas, he had always rather blended in the background. He hopes that the victory won’t tamper with his relative anonymity. While on the one hand he is very happy about the win, on the other, it does have it’s downsides. Becoming famous is one of those.
It is not surprising that Greinke prefers anonymity, after all, he had to quit playing baseball after he was diagnosed with social anxiety disorder. His win is very big for the Kansas City Royals too, not only because he is one of the best players of the team, but because he is only the third Royals player to win the award, that too after a long gap of 29 years.
