Yousuf’s return to ODI squad would boost Pak’s chances: Akram
August 27th, 2010 - 4:15 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, Aug.27 (ANI): Backing the selectors decisions recall veteran middle order batsman Mohammed Yousuf in the one-day team for the upcoming five match one-day series against England, former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has said the experienced batsman’s inclusion would boost the team’s performance.
Yousuf, who scored valuable 56 and 33 runs in the first and second innings of The Oval Test, has been included both in the one-day and T20 squads, and Akram believes that the right handed batsman’s inclusion in the team played a big role in Pakistan’s revival in the third Test against England.
“Very few teams can turn it around the way they have in England. A lot of credit for the Pakistan revival goes to Mohammad Yousuf. I have long been voicing how important experience is,” The Daily Times quoted Akram, as saying.
“On the pacer-friendly wickets in England, he is a must. With his inclusion the whole team got a boost,” the former pacer added.
Akram, who is arguably one of the best fast bowlers of all times, showered praise on the current Pakistani pace battery especially Mohammed Asif and Mohammed Aamer.
“The fast bowling duo of Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer is doing really well. Both are getting swing and seam movement aplenty and are posing all kind of problems to the English batsmen,” he said.
He also spoke high of Wahab Riaz, who took five wickets on his debut at The Oval, describing him as the surprise package of the tour.
“Taking a five-for on debut is no small thing, and his bowling at the Oval was also one of the reasons behind Pakistan’s win,” Akram said.
“It has to be said that on the bowling front, Pakistan have no concerns and if the batsmen do their job well, they are very much capable of drawing the series,” the left-arm seamer added. (ANI)
