Younus Khan will be considered for Oz tour if available: Butt
November 14th, 2009 - 3:07 pm ICT by ANILahore, Nov.14 (ANI): Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ijaz Butt has said Younus Khan would be considered for the forthcoming Australian if he makes himself available.
“We have a long-term plan in place. And, we will review that once we get together over the next few days to discuss this. Younis wanted a rest and we have given him that. But when he comes back, we will most definitely consider him as an option for captaincy,” The Daily Times quoted Butt, as saying.
The PCB had appointed middle-order batsman Mohammad Yousuf as the captain of the Test team for the New Zealand series after Khan opted out.
Khan has admitted that he is going through a rough patch in his career, and thus decided to take a break from international cricket to focus on the weak points.
Khan has led Pakistan in three Tests, though each time as stand-in for Inzamam-ul-Haq.
It was being speculated that he would succeed Haq following his retirement in 2007, but was overlooked and Shoaib Malik was appointed as the skipper of both Test and one-day teams. (ANI)
