Younis eyeing Test comeback against England?
July 24th, 2010 - 5:06 pm ICT by ANIKarachi, July 24(ANI): Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan has resumed training after returning from England in a bid to reclaim his place in the national team.
Younis is concentrating on his form and fitness, and hopes to make his international comeback in the Test series against England, starting on July 29, The News reports.
Following the unexpected Test retirement of skipper Shahid Afridi, it has been reported that the Pakistani team management is considering recalling Younis and Mohammad Yousuf.
The two experienced batsmen were banned indefinitely from the team in March following an inquiry committee report, which had probed Pakistan’s dismal performances and disciplinary problems during the tours of the United Arab Emirates, New Zealand and Australia.
Five other players - Shoaib Malik, Rana Navedul Hasan, Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal and Umar Akmal - were also banned or fined.
However, an arbitrator later lifted bans on Younus and Malik and halved the fines.
Naved’s appeal is still pending, while Yousuf did not appeal and retired from cricket in protest.
Earlier, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) legal advisor Tafazzul Rizvi had said that Younis must approach the board directly to earn his place back in Test squad.
He said that Younis has not approached the board ever since the appellate tribunal lifted the indefinite ban imposed on him in March.
“The other players have been cleared to play for Pakistan after they approached the board,” Rizvi had said. (ANI)
