Youngsters impress in all-India snooker

Mumbai, July 25 (IANS) Sparsh Pherwani, Harmehr Mago and Karan Chuganee went down in their round one matches but not before leaving their mark on day one of the Shyam Shroff Memorial All India Open Invitation Snooker Tournament here Wednesday.

Playing his first competitive tournament, 13-year-old Pherwani of Podar International School went down 2-3 in a thriller after losing the decider in a black ball finish against Shailesh Nirmal of Bhusawal.

Fourteen-year-old Mago was also playing his first-ever competition. Mago created quite a flutter when he snatched the tight third frame in a black ball finish to keep his hopes alive against the experienced Manjeet Singh Bhomar of North Indian Association. Bhomar won the match 3-1.

Playing in only his second significant competition after the Bombay Gymkhana Strokes Invitational, 15-year-old Chuganee of St. Mary’s ICSE, Mazagaon lost 0-3 to young Abhinav Kripalu of CCI but not before impressive potting and positioning.
