APTOPIX Tigers Red Sox BaseballKevin Youkilis was hit with a pitch by Detroit pitcher Rick Porcello. Youkilis charged the mound and hit Porcello with his helmet in the field on Tuesday night’s match between Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers. Order was restored in the field pretty soon without much ado. But later during the second innings of the play Youkilis and Porcello were removed from the field. Porcello gave a piece of his mind to the umpire while leaving the field. Later during the game when Red Sox manager Terry Francona argued about a play at second base he was also asked to leave the field.

The brawl between Youkilis and Porcello was an epilogue to the hostilities that began on Monday night when Miguel Cabrera was hit in the top of the fourth and Youkilis was plunked in the bottom half. Brabdon Inge of Detroit was hit in the eight on Monday night. While leading the second inning Youkilis was hit in the back with the very first pitch. This blew off the lid and Youkilis ran towards Porcello, his batting helmet just missing the pitcher. He then brought Porcello to the ground. Although players from the dugouts and bullpens rushed into the field, but they simply hovered around while the two fighters struggled on the ground. It was the umpires who eventually sorted things out.

Mike Lowell pinch ran for Youkilis while Chris Lambert relieved Porcello. David Ortiz singled and Jason Bayfollowe with a three-run homer to tie the game 3-all.

With two home runs Mike Lowell took Boston Red Sox to a 7-5 lead against Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night.
