Yasir Hameed apologises to PCB for British tabloid interview on spot-fixing
December 31st, 2010 - 5:23 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, Dec 31 (ANI): Pakistan batsman Yasir Hameed has apologised to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for being involved in an interview, in which he was shown talking about corruption in the game.
Conducted by a British tabloid, Hameed’s secretly recorded interview had added fuel to fire, as just a few days before, a sting operation by the same tabloid had led to the Pakistani trio- Salman Butt, Mohammed Asif and Mohammad Aamer- being suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on spot-fixing allegations.
On Thursday, Hameed met PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt and members of the Integrity Committee in Lahore, and insisted that even though the undercover reporter kept on pestering him with questions about match-fixing, he hardly said anything.
The Nation quoted Hameed, as saying that he was wrong to meet with reporter without the team management’ permission, but still maintained that he had no idea the reporter was taping a ‘general’ conversation that he was having with him.Hameed, who has played 25 Tests and 56 one-day internationals, was dropped for the One-day International (ODI) series against England. He is yet to be reinstated in the national squad. (ANI)
