Mar 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The unborn child of Houston Rockets star Yao Ming is already creating quite a stir as speculations are ripe about what will be the citizenship of the yet-to-be born baby. The 29 year old Chinese player recently returned to the United States with his pregnant wife Ye Li, fueling speculations that the baby might be born there and as a result would be gaining American citizenship.
The unborn baby of China’s biggest basketball star has already captivated the attention of the large number of fans of the Houston Rockets player. The couple had been living in Shanghai for some time now as the player was recuperating from a broken foot but headed back to United States recently. However, Yao Ming’s decision to leave the Chinese city has caused an alarm among many of his Chinese fans who fear that the newborn would get an American passport which would deprive China of a possible basketball star of the future. Moreover, a leading daily has also highlighted the feedback of angry Chinese fans and has reiterated that if the Chinese player’s child is born in United States, not only will to be a huge loss for China but at the same time it would be extremely difficult for the Chinese fans to accept it.
However, while reacting to the widespread uproar that the citizenship of his unborn child is generating, Yao Ming stated on Wednesday that the decision about where their child would be born is a private matter between him and his wife. Although the Houston Rockets player appreciated the concern of his fans, he implied that at this moment they needed a bit of privacy.
