Nov. 5, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The New York Yankees have defeated defending champions Philadelphia Phillies in the sixth game of the World Series championship on Wednesday evening at the Yankees Stadium.
The Yankees registered a victory against rivals Philadelphia Phillies with the score 7-3 and in the process clinching their 27th world championship title. The sixth game of the series witnessed the players of the Yankees team deliver a scintillating performance which ensured that they could finally achieve the long-awaited victory. Left-hander Andy Pettite along with a host of other Yankees player made sure that their team remained in charge of the game throughout the match. Pettite managed to allow three runs that gave his team the ability to remain in the winning position. Hideki Matsui who was supposedly playing his last game as a Yankee also displayed an amazing performance with six RBI. He showcased his determination and power to win the match like most of the other Yankees players, as he continued to play despite his knees being swollen with fluids. However, this win was all the more sweeter for the Yankees as it came after an long period of nine years.
The defeat came as a rude shock to the team as well as the fans of Philadelphia Phillies given the fact that this series win would have enabled them to become the first team to win a consecutive title in about 33 years. However, impressive performances by rivals New York Yankees guaranteed that Phillies miss out on the coveted title. Moreover, players who had displayed impressive control of the game in last year’s championship failed to make a mark this time around.
