Wright vows to cement his place in England squad
December 13th, 2009 - 3:01 pm ICT by ANICape Town (S. Africa), Dec. 13 (ANI): Sussex all-rounder Luke Wright has vowed to cement his place in England’s Test side after surprisingly being picked for the four Test series against South Africa.
Wright’s first-class stats don’t mark him out as a five-day star in the making, but Three Lions coach Andy Flower has been impressed by his temperament.
News of The World quoted Wright, 24, as saying: “Any time you to step into the England Test team, you have to look to push on with your own game and do well. You don’t want to come in just for the experience. You want to do well and help England win games. That is exactly what I will try and do.
“If things go well I might be in the shake-up for an Ashes place next year,” he added.
Wright took two for 31 in nine overs as England drew their final warm-up game with a below-par South African Airways Invitation XI yesterday. (ANI)
