Wright reluctant to get into New Zealand captaincy debate

Wellington, Apr 1 (ANI): New Zealand cricket coach John Wright is keeping his cards close to his chest about the next captain of the team, saying he is yet to give the topic much thought.
With Daniel Vettori stepping down as skipper, a decision needs to be made about his replacement.
Wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum and current vice-captain Ross Taylor are the two leading candidates.
The New Zealand Cricket board will ultimately sign off on the decision but Wright will have a serious say on the matter, Stuff.co.nz reports.
Talking about the qualities he wants from his next captain, Wright said performing at international level was the most important.
“You have got to perform in a lead role whether you are a coach, a player or whatever. If you’re not performing, people stop listening. Leadership is performance,” he said.
Asked whether he favoured McCullum or Taylor, Wright was reluctant to get into the debate.
“Both are fine cricketers and good boys to work with, but I haven’t looked that far ahead,” he said.
Wright downplayed his role in New Zealand’s late charge at the World Cup, but said a “positive attitude” within the playing group might have something to do with the change in fortunes. (ANI)
