‘Worried’ PCB vows to reject two-tier Test format outright
September 26th, 2009 - 3:55 pm ICT by ANILahore, Sep.26 (ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has said that it would oppose the idea of having a two-tier Test structure, if the issue is discussed in the forthcoming International Cricket Council’s (ICC) board and chief executives meeting.
“We have seen no such proposal coming from anyone but even if it does come up for discussion during the ICC meetings we will reject it outright,” PCB Chief Operating Officer (COO) Wasim Bari said.
The ICC is mulling a change in the current Test format by introducing a two-tier structure, separating the strong teams from the weak, in order to make the five-day contests more interesting and survive in the T20 age.
“First of all we don’t support having two systems in the Future Tour Programme (FTP) calendar and secondly, there is no way anyone can justify putting Pakistan in the second tier,” The Daily Times quoted Bari, as saying.
Pakistan is currently ranked number six in the ICC Test rankings, above New Zealand, West Indies and Bangladesh. (ANI)
