Hyderabad, Nov 23 (IANS) Ng On Yee, the 19-year old from Hong Kong-China scripted a brilliant 4-3 win against Ramona Belmont of New Zealand to enter the final of the women’s World Snooker Championship here Monday.

In Tuesday’s final, On Yee, who for two years running won the Hong Kong Under-21 championship participating in the boys section, will take on Australia’s 49-year old Kathy Parashis who put it past China’s Bi Junqing 4-3 to realize a 25-year dream of playing in the World championship final.

On Yee who had lost to Jhuqing in the 2007 World Under-21 championship in Goa, thus avenged her 2-3 defeat to Belmont in the league phase last week despite slotting a break of 77, the highest so far in the women’s competition.

On Yee looked set for an easy win when she jumped to a 2-0 lead against Belmont, but the 23-year old Kiwi fought back to take three frames in a row to go 3-2 up.

But On Yee kept her nerves in a tight finish with a small but crucial break at the fag end of the deciding frame to clinch the match.

Speaking through an interpreter, On Yee, who works as a co-ordinator at one of the snooker clubs in Hong Kong after completing school, said she was pleased by her performance and hoped to win the title.

Parashis, a mother of three from Sydney and 10 times Australian Open champion, survived a “nerve-wracking” contest that lasted five hours against the 22-year old Junqing who fell apart in the final frame after the tough-as-nails Aussie came back from 2-3 to make it 3-3.

Junqing’s blunder on the green that she left open for Parashis proved decisive in the seventh frame as the Australian, who had ousted top seed Vidya Pillai in the pre-quarter-finals, sank the colour, followed by blue and pink to seal the match.

After Junqing conceded defeat, Parashis, who is sponsored by the Canterbury League Club where she is employed, broke down and wept as her team-mates congratulated her and as she spoke to IANS outside the hall, she could barely keep her emotions in check.

“This is the day I have been dreaming and playing for over the past 25 years, and if I can win tomorrow, I would have fulfilled my ambition,” she said, wiping the tears. “My family is following the tournament on the net and am waiting for a call from home.”

“I have played in all the World championships (since its introduction in 2003) except last year when I didn’t qualify. It was a nerve wracking match and I knew I had the experience to see through the tight spots, and when I took the green in the last frame, I realised I had won,” she added.

Looking back, Parashis said that her win against Vidya Pillai gave her the confidence. “I was one frame away from getting knocked out of the tournament when she led 3-1, but the match was halted and the change of tables when we resumed might have upset her,” she said. “Yes, that victory was huge and I realized I can go all the way.”

The results (semi-finals) - Ng On Yee (Hong Kong-China) bt Ramona Belmont (New Zealand) 4-3: 54-28, 61-20, 27-70, 23-70, 5-51, 70-17, 62-8. Kathy Parashis (Australia) bt Bi Junqing (China) 4-3: 41-9, 40-61, 58-29, 24-45, 33-57, 52-36, 64-31.
