World Cup venues will ready in time: Shetty
January 25th, 2011 - 7:28 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, Jan 25 (IANS) Tournament director Ratnakar Shetty Tuesday said all the 13 venues for the cricket World Cup, beginning Feb 19, will be ready in time. With the World Cup, being co-hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, just 25 days away, the preparedness of the venues in India and Sri Lanka has come under the scanner with redevelopment of some of the grounds failing to meet the deadline.
“I think the concerns are more in the media than anything else,” Shetty said following International Cricket Council’s (ICC) inspection of the Wankhede Stadium, one of the grounds which is behind schedule.
“As far as we are concerned, all the 13 venues which are going to stage the World Cup are coming up very well and we don’t see any reason for concern.”
India will play Bangladesh in Dhaka, Mirpur in the first match of the mega event.
