World boxing chief awaits bribe evidence from BBC
October 7th, 2011 - 1:24 pm ICT by IANSBaku (Azerbaijan), Oct 7 (IANS) The International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) is waiting for BBC to produce evidence for the alleged corruption in the World Series of Boxing (WSB).
The statement came from AIBA President Wu Ching-Kuo during a press conference in here Thursday, Xinhua reported.
The AIBA boss said the issue will be discussed at the meeting with BBC officials. Earlier, denying corruption claims in the “strongest possible terms,” amateur boxing’s governing body set up a special committee to investigate allegations of attempts to fix results at the 2012 London Olympics.
AIBA said a five-man panel will look into claims made in a BBC television programme that $9 million has been paid by Azerbaijan to ensure the former Soviet republic to win two gold medals at the London Games.
Bribes were allegedly paid to the WSB, a subsidiary of AIBA.
