World Athletics Championships: Vikas Gowda finishes 7th in discuss
August 30th, 2011 - 8:56 pm ICT by IANSDaegu (South Korea), Aug 30 (IANS) India’s Vikas Gowda finished seventh in the discus throw finals at the World Athletics Championships here Tuesday.
The US-based Gowda, an Arjuna Awardee and national record holder, finished with a throw of 64.05 metres, which was way behind his personal best of 64.96 metres and season’s best 64.91 metres.
Gowda is also the first Indian male athlete to finish among the top eight in the World Championships.
The gold went to German Robert Harting (68.97 meters) and the silver was bagged by Gerd Kanter of Estonia with a throw of 66.95 meters. Iran’s Ehsan Hadadi won the bronze with his season’s best performance of 66.08 meters.
