Woods says he can win Augusta, aiming for gold standard of Jack Nicklaus

London, Apr. 6 (ANI): Former World number one golfer Tiger Woods insists he can be a Masters champion once more in 2011.
Woods has dismissed Ian Poulter’s jibes that he will struggle to finish as the leader board this weekend.
Poulter based his judgment on the evidence before the golfing court, but that runs counter to the sentiment here and to the Woods stare. The Telegraph quoted Poulter, as saying: “I don’t think he’ll finish in the top five. The shots he was hitting at Doral (one month ago), they were very inconsistent. You can’t afford to hit shots like that on this course and get away with it. I don’t think you want to rely on your short game that much around this place.”
Woods, on the other hand, believes absolutely that he can win a fifth green jacket this week.
He also says that he can overhaul the 18 majors posted by Jack Nicklaus.
Woods has not won a major since November 2009.
Not starting favourite is irrelevant for him.
“Doesn’t matter. You still have to play the golf tournament, right? We all have an opportunity, so I’ve just got to go out there and play and see where it adds up. I believe in myself,” Woods said.
“I absolutely want to do it [beat Nicklaus]. That’s the benchmark. The gold standard in this sport is 18,” he added. (ANI)
