Wisden India to be launched next year
October 10th, 2011 - 9:37 pm ICT by IANSLondon, Oct 10 (IANS) India will get its own version of Wisden next year after publisher Bloomsbury signed a licensing deal with local firm FidelisWorld.
Wisden India will be launched digitally early in 2012, and in print in October of that year.
Bloomsbury will receive an annual trademark licence fee and royalties. It will also recruit and employ staff as well as control the editorial board, with reports of former Indian captain Rahul Dravid as an early signing already doing the rounds.
“India…has one of the highest penetrations of people using mobiles to access their favourite sport. Wisden will be the independent voice of the next generation of Indian cricket fans,” Richard Charkin, director of Bloomsbury, was quoted as saying in the London Evening Standard.
Anand Krishnan, executive chairman of FidelisWorld, said: “With a clear plan and perspective Wisden will become the single true voice and the home of Indian cricket.”
Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack or Wisden is a cricket reference book published annually in England.
