Wining final ODI will be huge success for England: Prior
December 3rd, 2009 - 4:28 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Johannesburg, Dec 3(ANI): England wicket keeper Matt Prior has said that a win in the final ODI against South Africa at the Sahara Stadium on Friday will be a great achievement, as they will become only the second team to beat Proteas in a ODI series on their home territory.
A win or a washout will mean that England will equal the twin achievements of Australia in 1996-97 and 2001-02 in overpowering South Africa in a bilateral series here.
“It would be a huge, huge success. But, we need patience because we are not going to win one series and suddenly be ranked at the top,” The Times quoted Prior, as saying.
“Hopefully, we can become the second country to beat them, and that statistic is great motivation. What we really want is constant improvement and consistency. We have been good after bad performances, but we want to become better at getting ahead of the game, not have to take a pounding before we fight back,” he added.
When asked about the number of foreign players in team, Prior said: “As long as I look around that dressing room and the bloke next to me wants to win for England, I don’t care where he was born or where he was brought up. In this environment, playing for your team is far more important than playing for your place. It’s not a case of, ‘If I do all right here, I might get another game.’ (ANI)
