New Delhi, Feb.22 (ANI): West Indies vice-captain Dwayne Bravo on Tuesday exuded confidence about his team’s chances in their first World Cup match against South Africa to be played here on Thursday.

Bravo said his team is banking on the strength of their all-rounders for World Cup glory.

“We have got new faces in our team. We have also got all-rounders in our team. I think this is going to be very important in the subcontinent where all-round abilities will be playing a big part,” said Bravo.

“I think our chances are just as good as any other team in the World Cup. We have prepared very hard and prepared well. We have come in this tournament full of confidence. We know in World Cup it is all about the team, which plays better on that day,” he added.

“As I said, we have good chances, just as any other team; we just have to focus on our game at the moment,” he said.

Likening Kotla’s pitch conditions to West Indies’, Bravo said it would prove to be an advantage for them.

“The conditions are similar as compared to what we have back in West Indies. I think that is what the advantage we have,” Bravo said.

“All-rounders are very important for this part of the world. We have our captain Darren Sammy, who is an all-rounder, Pollard (Kieron Pollard), myself, Chris Gayle, and they are all top quality all-rounders. I think any given day, if two of us out of the four have a good game, then West Indies team will be in a good position to win the games,” he said.

The team underwent a gruelling net practice session at stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday.

They are in Group B along with India, England, South Africa, Bangladesh, Ireland and Netherlands.

In this edition of the Cricket World Cup, the participating 14 teams are divided into two groups of seven.

The top four from each will qualify for the quarter-finals unlike the 2007 edition, where 16 teams first competed in a pool stage, before a ‘Super 8′ stage of quarter-finals, followed by semi-finals and a final.(ANI)
