Lahore, June 19 (ANI): At last cricket fans across Pakistan had something to cheer about, as their team defeated South Africa by seven runs in the semi-final of the ICC Twenty 20 World Championship on Thursday.

Cricket fans across the country watched their cricket heroes tame the Proteas to march into the final of the tournament.

People in many cities such as Hyderabad, Lahore, Multan, and Karachi had gathered in huge numbers infront of huge TV screens installed especially for the match, and burst into jubilation after their team’s win.

Pakistan’s win brought happiness on people’s faces, who have been facing a tough time due to the restive political situation in the country, and the expanding terror threat.

The win against a strong team like South Africa comes as a shot in the arm for Pakistan cricket, as the country has become the pariah of world cricket after being shunned by foreign teams due to security concerns.

The deteriorating security condition also forced the International Cricket Council (ICC) to strip Pakistan of the hosting rights of the Champions Trophy and the 2011 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has congratulated the national cricket team for their win, and reaching the final of the mega-event.

In a statement released by the Presidency, Zardari commended the team for their brilliant performance and expressed happiness over the win, The News reported. (ANI)
