Williamson to bat in middle-order to revive ODI career ahead of World Cup
January 27th, 2011 - 5:32 pm ICT by ANIChristchurch, Jan 27(ANI): New Zealand selectors will play batsman Kane Williamson in the middle-order during the third ODI against Pakistan to give him the best opportunity to revive his career ahead of the World Cup.
Williamson had scored a century in Bangladesh last October, but struggled in three matches in India two months later, totalling 75 runs from 147 balls batting at No 3.
“Obviously in India his scoring rate wasn’t considered to be ideal, but we think he’s such a talent that he will adjust his game,” the New Zealand Herald quoted selector Glenn Turner, as saying.
“It’s fair to say he may have to look batting more middle-order than at top with field spread. He’s quite good at working the ball around and once the field is set back he’ll probably find scoring easy.”
“We think he’s a fast learner, we think he’s talented and we’d like to think over the next two or three weeks he’ll bring himself up to speed,” he added.
New Zealand currently leads the six-match series 1-0.
The Black Caps had won the first ODI in Wellington by nine wickets, while the second ODI in Queenstown was abandoned due to rain. (ANI)
