Mar 4 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The unborn baby of China’s biggest basketball player, has already caused quite an uproar in the headlines, and the poor child has not even been born yet!
The 29 year old Houston Rockets star, Yao Ming, recently returned to the United States after living in Shanghai for quite a while. The basketball star has been recovering from foot surgery during his stay in Shanghai, but is now healed and ready for action. His choice to leave the city in Chine has caused a serious upset among his Chinese fans, however, due to his decision to bring his pregnant wife, Ye Li, to the United States with him. She is due to have the baby in between May and July.
The main worry among these Chinese fans is that the baby would be born in America, thus making the child an American citizen. They fear that this possibility would take away the chance that they have for Ming’s baby to be another Chinese basketball star. Chongging Business Daily newspaper’s articles are showing tons of negative feedback from fans regarding the speculations that the baby may be American. It has been made very clear that the Chinese fans will see this as a great loss for China and will not be willing to accept that.
The Chinese fans are not the only one’s who are wondering where this child will be born. A large number of Houston Rockets fans are making their own speculations as to the citizenship that this baby will have. Yao Ming, however, stated on Wednesday that he and his wife alone will make the decision about where their child will be born. He added that although he does appreciate the concern of all of his fans, he and his wife would appreciate some privacy in the matter.
