Will closely follow West Indies-England clash: Shakib
March 14th, 2011 - 9:27 pm ICT by IANSChittagong, March 14 (IANS) Bangladesh captain Shakib-al-Hasan will be closely following Thursday’s West Indies-England World Cup match after his team got two valuable points by beating the Netherlands to keep alive their quarterfinal hopes.
“It was a nervous game because we had to win to stay in the contest. The boys played well and kept up the pressure on Netherlands. The fast bowlers supported the spinners well. Abdur Razzak is a key bowler for us, and he always kept us in the game. We’ll watch the West Indies-England game very closely, but we want to do well against South Africa,” Shakib said Monday.
Man of the Match Imrul Kayes, who hit an unbeaten 73, said it was a tough wicket to bat on.
“The wicket was not easy to bat on. I had to stay on the wicket after Tamim got out early. My role is to occupy the crease,” he said.
Dutch captain Peter Borren said they were going to play brave cricket, but played bad cricket.
“We let ourselves down on a tough pitch. Not an easy wicket to rotate the strike but that’s something we’ve worked hard on. The running between the wickets was disappointing. We have another game to go. Today was an opportunity but we didn’t play to our standards. Ireland is a team we’ve played a lot of cricket against but we have to be on top of our game to beat them,” he said.
