Who is Lalit Bhanot?
February 23rd, 2011 - 9:57 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Feb 23 (IANS) Deposed Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (CGOC) secretary general Lalit Bhanot, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Wednesday, has been a familiar sports administrator for over two decades.Bhanot has been the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) secretary general for over 15 years and stepped down before the Commonwealth Games. Co-incidentally sacked CGOC chairman Suresh Kalmadi resigned as the AFI president in 2006, but stayed on as the president of Asian Athletics Association.
Bhanot was a state-level thrower and physical education director of a Delhi college before becoming active in athletics. He has been the longest serving official of the AFI and Delhi Olympic Association, of which he is the joint secretary.
