Bridgetown (Barbados), June 29 (IANS) The West Indies were five for 82 and 119 runs behind India’s first innings total at the end of first session on day two of the second cricket Test at the Kensington Oval here Wednesday.

Ishant Sharma’s (3-31) double strike in sixth over of the day had the West Indies reeling at 57 for five but the experienced Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Marlon Samuels settled things down for the hosts. They were batting at 12 and 15 and will look to build a big partnership after the break. India were bowled out for 201 in their first innings.

Ramnaresh Sarwan (18) and night watchman Devendra Bishoo (13) resumed the West Indies innings from 30 for three after a delayed start due to early morning showers.

The two never looked comfortable from the word go with Sharma creating steep bounce at one end and Praveen Kumar swinging the ball judiciously.

The inevitable happened when Sharma sent them back in the space of three balls.

Bishoo jabbed at a good length delivery and sent an easy catch to gully while Sarwan was adjudged leg before on a full-length ball.

Chanderpaul and Samuels then steadied the ship and added 30 runs for the sixth wicket.

It will be a challenge for the West Indies to take a first innings lead considering their batting has let them down on numerous occasions in the recent past.

In fact, they have not been able to cross the 300-run mark in an innings in their last five Tests.
