West Ham dump flop Proteas star McCarthy
April 13th, 2011 - 10:28 am ICT by ANILondon, Apr. 13 (ANI): Premier League club West Ham have dumped 6.75 million pound flop South African football player Benni McCarthy.According to The Sun, McCarthy has agreed to a two million pound pay out to quit the Hammers just halfway through his two-and-a-half-year-long contract.
“Benni has been a bit of a disaster. He hasn’t been involved in the matchday squad for a long time and it’s not really worked out,” a club source was quoted, as saying.
McCarthy, 33, failed to score in 14 appearances for the Upton Park side and consistently struggled with his weight.
He had signed up for an initial fee of 2.25 million pounds in January last year and, before yesterday’s pay-off, had cost West Ham’s owners around 2.5 million pounds in wages. (ANI)
