London, Dec 14(ANI): Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez’s situation in the Premier League received another knock after Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger inspired Gunners victory piled the pressure on the Reds’ season.
Though Liverpool had totally outplayed Arsenal in the first half, Wenger’s pep talk and an own goal by Glen Johnson made life tougher for Benitez.
With the 2-1 defeat, Liverpool now has managed just three wins in 15 games.
The Reds are now in seventh place, 13 points off the top and only 10 from the relegation zone.
Talking of the game, Benitez said that his players were low on confidence following a disastrous season so far.
“We were without any confidence when we were passing the ball, it’s not a question of quality. Maybe we needed to score the second and have a clear advantage because you could see after the own goal in the second half that everything was different,” The Sun quoted Benitez, as saying.
While, Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas confirmed that Wenger did inspire them to improve their performance.
“The boss screamed. He was really disappointed with us in the first half, I’ve never seen him like that before. He said we didn’t deserve to wear the Arsenal shirt and he was right because we really weren’t good, we weren’t up for it,” Fabregas said.
“But that gave us a boost and the second half was one of the best second halves we have played this season,” he added. (ANI)
