Webster to boost West Indies morale ahead of second Test
June 27th, 2011 - 2:29 pm ICT by IANSBridgetown (Barbados), June 27 (IANS) The West Indies hope that famous sports psychologist Rudi Webster will sort out the issues in the team ahead of the second cricket Test against India starting here Tuesday.
The Barbadian held a training session with the West Indies team Sunday and gave them some of his morale boosting lectures.
Webster, who had a short stint with the Indian team in 2006, has a tough task at hand in inspiring the West Indies team, who lost the first Test match by 63 runs. The West Indies had to blame themselves for the loss as they allowed India to recover from 85 for six in the first innings and steal a win.
The team has also suffered due to the controversy over former captain Chris Gayle, who is at loggerheads with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).
Stung by a loss in the first Test, the WICB did not waste time in roping in Webster.
“Rudi Webster has accepted an invitation to work with the West Indies players as they prepare for the Second Digicel Test match against India at Kensington Oval,” the WICB said in release.
Webster will be with the team for the duration of the match.
Webster is a former first class cricketer and former manager of the West Indies team. He also worked with other international cricketers and sporting greats.
