Webber wins in Monaco, Force India earn double points

Monaco, May 27 (IANS) Sahara Force India secured a double points finish in the Monaco Grand Prix here Sunday as Paul Di Resta and Nico Hulkenberg finished seventh and eighth in the action-packed street race. Red Bull’s Mark Webber steered to victory from pole position.

Webber managed to hang on to his lead for 78 laps to become the sixth winner in as many races of the 2012 season. It is for the first time a F1 season has seen different winners in the first six rounds.

Nico Rosberg came second for Mercedes while Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso grabbed the last podium spot in a race that saw nine retirements.

Force India earned a double points finish for the second time in the season.

Di Resta did well to bag six points after starting 14th on the grid. His teammate Hulkenberg collected four points, gaining a couple of grid positions.

“I am very happy to make up so much ground on my starting position. We went aggressive with the strategy and I have to say the team really optimised it. The secret was managing the tyres and trying to find clean air when we could. The car felt really good, much stronger than yesterday, and that allowed me to push when we needed to,” said di Resta.

“Fortunately the rain held off at the end because that could have had a big impact on the end of the race,” the Scot added.

Force India are eighth in the Constructor’s Championship with 28 points.

India’s Narain Karthikeyan too had something cheer about after a difficult start to the year. He got one of the HRTs home in 15th place, his best finish so far.
