Weak PCB responsible for ’spot-fixing’ scandal: Pak Sports Minister
September 20th, 2010 - 1:50 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, Sep 20(ANI): Pakistani Sports Minister Ijaz Jakhrani believes that a weak Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is responsible for the ’spot-fixing’ scandal which has rocked the national team’s tour of England.
“Well, the management could have been better. The board should have seen this coming and should not have compromised on disciplining players in the past,” The Daily Times quoted Jakhrani, as saying.
“The PCB is an independent body and is not dependent on the government or sports ministry for funds. But clearly they need to put their house in order and show better administration,” he added.
Jakhrani further said that he would convey his feelings about the issue to President and PCB patron Asif Ali Zardari, and did not rule out the possibility of changes in the cricket set-up.
“I can tell you at the moment the President is closely being updated on all happenings in England. He has the final authority to take decisions on the management,” Jakhrani said.
“As far as we are concerned right now we can’t do anything on our own. We are waiting for the ICC and Scotland Yard findings to come out. We can’t have our parallel investigation when the team is still playing in England,” he added. (ANI)
