We will like to end the series on a good note: Dhoni
October 24th, 2011 - 12:39 am ICT by IANSMumbai, Oct 23 (IANS) Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, after his side’s six-wicket win over England, said they have improved as a fielding unit and will like to wrap up the five-match ODI series on a high.
The victory here Sunday gave India a 4-0 lead in the series and a chance to inflict a 5-0 whitewash when the two sides meet for the last match in Kolkata Tuesday.
“They got off to a very good start, we thought it looked like a wicket where they could score 270,” said Dhoni. “But there was a twist in the tale, and we knew it would get slower later on. Overall the team has done really well, and we’d like to finish it on a good note.”
Dhoni said the youngsters in the side have raised the team’s fielding standards.
“We have got a lot of youngsters in the side and that has made the difference. I think we have improved as a fielding unit.”
The Indian skipper also praised debutant pacer Varun Aaron who returned with figures of 3-24.
“I think he bowled quick, and that’s one thing we are looking for. As he plays more and more games he’ll get more and more consistent,” he said.
England skipper Alastair Cook admitted that 220 was a below par score.
“We fell short again,” Cook said. “A lot of our top order got in. It’s been quite similar all through this tour. In Indian conditions, once you get in you’ve got to get a 70, 80, 90. We kept losing wickets, and 220 wasn’t enough.”
Cook said they will do their best to win the last one-dayer.
“I can’t fault the desire and commitment from the lads in training, but we’re just not performing. We’ve got one more left and we’re desperate to try and get a win.”
