We have to score 300 runs: Gambhir

Jaipur, Nov 30 (IANS) India’s stand-in captain Gautam Gambhir said dew will play a crucial role in determinig the outcome of the second One-day International day-night match against New Zealand here Wednesday.
Gambhir, after a nets session at the Rajasthan Cricket Association’s academy, said that since dew will be a factor, batsmen will have to score heavily at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium.
“If we are batting first, 300 should be a good score. But because of the dew factor, we have make sure that we have enough runs on board so that we give our bowlers a target to bowl at. It’s always good to score as many runs as possible in the subcontinent,” Gambhir said.
Gambhir, however, said that the bowlers have enough experience to bowl in dewy conditions.
“Dew will be a big factor. But we also have bowlers who have enough experience of bowling in dew conditions. They will use some chemical and that will make a difference. But at the end of the day, toss and dew are factors which are not in our hands,” said Gambhir.
On the pitch, Gambhir said that the track looks dry and might offer spin in the first session.
On comeback man Ashish Nehra, Gambhir said: “Nehra is a very experienced campaigner and is bowling in good rhythm at the moment. Sreesanth has also bowled a lot in the Test series and doesn’t need to bowl that long. Moreover, on subcontinental wickets, batting is also very important.”
