We are all focused on Sri Lanka Tests: YounisFebruary 5th, 2009 - 11:18 pm ICT by IANS
Karachi, Feb 5 (IANS) Pakistan captain Younis Khan said his team will put aside the bitter memories of a humiliating series loss against Sri Lanka and will go all out against Mahela Jayawardene’s team in the two-match Test series getting underway in Karachi from Feb 21.The experienced middle-order batsman told reporters here Thursday that Pakistan’s 234-run defeat was just a bad day for the team.
“I was a part of the team that lost miserably against Sri Lanka in that game, but all of it is history now. We are all focused on the Test series and will try our best to win it,” he said.
Younis was appointed as captain as the Pakistan Cricket Board sacked all-rounder Shoaib Malik after that crushing defeat in Lahore.
Hailing Sri Lanka off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan’s as the world’s most dangerous bowler, Younis praised him for becoming the highest wicket-taker in ODI history.
“Murali is the world’s greatest spinner and a very dangerous bowler,” he said. “He deserves the record.”
Murali, 36, surpassed Pakistan pace legend Wasim Akram as the highest wicket-taker in one-day cricket when he collected his 503rd victim in the fourth one-dayer against India in Colombo.
