Watson’s technique suited to batting in top order: Katich
November 24th, 2009 - 4:49 pm ICT by ANISydney, Nov 24(ANI): Australian opener Simon Katich has said that a debate may rage over the long-term future of Shane Watson as a Test opener, but the all rounder is the best of the current lot.
“He (Watson) has put his hand up for it and no doubt wants it. His technique is suited to batting at the top of the order. He likes to be aggressive and put the bowlers under pressure,” The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Katich, as saying.
The 34-year-old further said that Watson has clearly reveled in his new opening role, so he should continue with the role.
“Look at his current form and he has been outstanding at the top of the order. Not only in Tests in England, but also the one-dayers recently (in India where he was named player of the series),” Katich said.
“There’s no doubt as a batsman it’s nice to have that mindset knowing when you are actually going to be batting rather than waiting and chewing up nervous energy. He’s handling it really well,” he added. (ANI)
