January 12th, 2011 - 4:57 pm ICT by ANIWashington, Jan.12 (ANI): US Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs Philip J. Crowley has said that Washington is committed in its resolve to help Pakistan become more stable, secure and prosperous.
“We are trying to help Pakistan improve its government, and it’s relationship with its people, help Pakistan develop the tools and the strategy to combat extremism within its borders,” the Daily Times quoted Crowley, as saying at a daily briefing on Tuesday.
Describing extremism as the first and foremost threat to Pakistan and the rest of the world, Crowley said: “There’s no country that has suffered more significantly from terrorism than Pakistan itself.”
He added: “It’s a strategic country. It is important in terms of regional stability, it’s important to the United States and others in terms of its links to extremism and the risk of terrorism that does affect all of us, including the United States. We are committed to a long-term partnership with Pakistan.”(ANI)
