Washington Huskies Bags The Apple Cup

jefftuelDec 5, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Apple Cup 2010, that took place yesterday was one of the most exciting and in a way a much awaited match for all the Washington residents. The match was played between the University of Washington Huskies and Washington State Cougars. The former bagged the cup with a final score of 35-28.

It was a tough competition, but by the end of each quarter, the Huskies were seven points ahead of the Cougars. The Cougars, by the end of the third quarter, went for two successive touchdowns, to tie the match with the Huskies, with the help of Jeff Tuel’s 1 yard pass to Marquess Wilson, who made 16 yards. However, the tie did not last for too long as Jermaine Kearse went for another 27 yards, with just 44 seconds left for the fourth quarter, to make another important touchdown. Jeff Tuel was also another significant player in the match as he got 298 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Even Chris Polk made a good contribution to the Huskies, as he made a field goal range with a 36-yard run late in the fourth quarter. He made a total of 284 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries. Jermaine Kearse, on the other hand caught six passes for two touchdowns and 178 yards.

The other player from the Cougars who had a great match was Daniel Blackledge, who scored 132 yards and one touchdown. James Montgomery added yet another 78 yards on 12 carries. The Apple Cup 2010, finished the year for the Cougars with 2-10. On the other hand, it made the Huskies qualify for the Bowl Games. They are most likely to play for the Holiday Bowl, the next year.
