Warne’s “be patient” words of advice revived my career: Hauritz

Melbourne, Dec.31 (ANI): Australian off-spinner Nathan Hauritz, who broke the back of the Pakistani batting line-up by grabbing five wickets in the second innings at the MCG, has thanked former legend leg-spinner Shane Warne for giving him some invaluable tips which seems to have revived his sagging career.

Talking to reporters after helping his side seal a 170 victory against the visitors in the first Test here, Hauritz said Warne’s two simple words-”be patient” were the driving force behind his splendid performance.

The leg-spin king and the rising off-spinner were huddled in conversation before the fifth day of the MCG Test. With Warne’s words of advice, Hauritz (5-101) took the first five-wicket haul of his first-class career to help his side go 1-0 up in the three match Test series.

“Being able to talk to Warnie and guys like that has been very helpful. I was a little bit impatient there at times and had a bit of a chat to Shane this morning and I was just trying to work on that. I think it’s a big area that I’ve got to work on,” Fox Sports quoted Hauritz, as saying.

Warne commended Hauritz on his brilliant performance, saying he bowled with patience and out thought the Pakistani batsmen on several occasions.

“It wasn’t the five wickets, it was the way he bowled. He out-thought the batsmen at the time. I thought he bowled with patience. I had a chat with him about positive reinforcement. The main thing I like about Nathan Hauritz is he has actually improved as cricketer,” Warne said.

Hauritz’s stand-out performance has prevented the Australian selectors from calling in 20-year-old NSW leg-spinner Steve Smith for the second Test starting on January 3 at the SCG. (ANI)
