Melbourne, Mar 27(ANI): Melbourne Stars, one of the eight teams in Cricket Australia’s Big Bash League, wants to sign former Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne for the Twenty20 tournament, which is set to begin in the 2011-2012 Australian summer.

“I think we have to be aspirational. I think Warnie could definitely add something as a board member or something like that. I wouldn’t give it [a playing role] up, but we can’t really make those decisions until we talk to him,” the Age quoted Melbourne Stars’ chief executive Clint Cooper, as saying.”It’s going to be competitive, but that is where Shippy [Stars coach Greg Shipperd] is going to come in, to find players that are going to win you matches,” he added.

After his retirement from international cricket, Warne was signed as the captain for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League in 2008.

The 41-year-old’s captaincy and simultaneous coaching was praised and well received by everyone when he led them to victory in the first season of the competition.

He is expected to continue as captain of the Royals in the 2011 season, which will begin next month. (ANI)
