Warne calls off charity England-Oz greats Twenty20 flood relief match
January 20th, 2011 - 3:25 pm ICT by ANIMelbourne, Jan 20(ANI): Former Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne has called off a Twenty20 match to raise money for victims of the Queensland floods.
“Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but unfortunately after discussions with everyone concerned re a flood game, it won’t be happening,” the Daily Telegraph quoted Warne, as saying in his Twitter post.
It was earlier said that a legends charity Twenty20 match would be held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground later this month to raise as much as 20 million dollars for the flood victims.
Warne thanked former team-mate Adam Gilchrist and England fast bowler Darren Gough for doing their bit to try to get the game to go ahead, and said that he would try to find alternative fundraising methods.
“To Adam and goughy who have helped me try to put game on I thank-you guys so much. Let’s keep helping out in other ways and raise $$$$,” the 41-year-old tweeted.
The event was hoped to be a match between Australian and England greats on January 29. (ANI)
