Warne backs Wade as Haddin’s successor
January 18th, 2012 - 5:59 pm ICT by IANSMelbourne, Jan 18 (IANS) Australian spin-wizard Shane Warne says back-up wicketkeeper Matthew Wade should step in if Brad Haddin fails to find form in the fourth and the final Test against India starting January 24.
Warner annointed Wade as Haddin’s successor and said that the out of form Australian Test vice captain desperately need to find runs in Adelaide to retain his place in side.
“I think he’s definitely the next keeper after Brad Haddin, whenever Brad Haddin’s time is up. Hopefully he (Haddin) makes a big hundred in Adelaide and he’s fine, he can play for another fair bit of time. But if things panned out and the selectors decided to go another way then Matthew Wade would 100 per cent do a great job in all forms of the game and he’s ready to go,” Warne was quoted as saying by The Age.
Haddin was named captain of the the Prime Minister’s XI, who will host Sri Lanka in Canberra slated for February 3.
Warne said Haddin should still carry on for a fair bit of time but said Wade deserves the Baggy Green.
“If you’re not doing your job well, get someone else to do it. With Brad Haddin, I think he’s doing a good job and hopefully he can find some form because he’s a wonderful player,” he said.
