Waqar Younis ready to don fulltime Pakistan coach’s cap
February 24th, 2010 - 2:00 pm ICT by ANISydney, Feb.24 (ANI): Former Pakistan speedster cricket Waqar Younis has said that he is ready to accept the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) offer to become the full-time coach of the national cricket team.
Younis, who has settled in Sydney, said he had a detailed meeting with PCB chairman Ijaz Butt in Dubai where he set down all his conditions.
Younis said that he agreed to become the coach for the long- term and that he expects to be appointed for a period up to the 2011 World Cup.
Meanwhile, PCB’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) Wasim Bari said the board is still negotiating with many other persons including Younis regarding the coaching job.
“It is difficult to say anything now. However, the appointment of the coach may be made in a week,” The News quoted Bari, as saying.
Younis was appointed as Pakistan’s bowling and fielding coach only for the recent ‘disastrous’ series against Australia.
Earlier, the former pacer had said that he was no longer interested in coaching the team, and that he would soon reveal the reasons behind the debacle Down Under.
Pakistan were swamped 3-0 in the Test series and 5-0 in the one-day series in Australia and Younis said there were some ‘non-cricketing reasons’ for the pitiable show. (ANI)
