WACA boss blasts Ponting for being a poor loser

Melbourne, Dec 22 (ANI): WACA chief executive Graeme Wood has defended the pitch presented by curator Cameron Sutherland, saying that Ricky Ponting wouldnt have complained had Australia won the Test match.

Wood has stopped just short of calling Ponting a sore loser after the Australian skipper complained about the state of the WACA pitch, The Australian reported.

Ponting described the wicket as slow and placid and compared it to an Adelaide Oval pitch after South Africa faced few problems in posting 4-414 in their second innings to go 1-0 up in the three-Test series.

I didnt see any complaints in the Ashes Test on the fifth day when Australia won and regained the Ashes (in Perth two years ago). When you are 7-162 in the second innings I dont think you can point fingers at the wicket, Wood said.

One side got 20 wickets, one side didnt. The last time I did look at the laws it’’s a five-day game. Cam has expressed on a number of occasions that he was a little bit disappointed, certainly with the carry and bounce. But I think at one stage the keeper was back 25 metres, he said.

Brett Lee bounced one over the keepers head and it went for four byes, I dont think Ive seen that in Adelaide, he added.

James Sutherland, who said the WACA was about 18 months into a five-year project to get back the grounds traditional pace and bounce, admitted there were aspects about the deck he wasnt pleased about. (ANI)
