Vogels gets man of the tournament award
March 13th, 2010 - 11:31 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 13 (IANS) The Netherlands goalkeeper Guus Vogels, who put up a terrific show to save his side’s collapse umpteen times in the Hockey World Cup, was adjudged player of the tournament Saturday.
Vogels, who bade adieu to international hockey Saturday after playing the bronze medal match against England, also won the award for the best goalkeeper. The Dutch took the bronze beating the European champions 4-3 in the third-place play-off.
Following are the list of awardees in the Cup:
Man of the match of the final: Luke Doerner (Aus).
Fair play trophy: New Zealand
Goalkeeper of the tournament: Guss Vogels
Top scorer of the tournament: Luke Doerner (Aus) and Taeke Taekema (The Netherlands), eight goals each.
Player of the tournament: Guss Vogels.
