vivian-stringer-214x300Vivian Stringer, in having directed 3 different teams to the NCAA Tournament Final Four, is the most eligible coach to be rightly inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall Of Fame. One can easily feel the go-getter exuberance in the hopeful eyes of this lady, who has taught the best lessons on how to be successful as a team. Amongst “101 Most Influential Minorities in Sports”, her name is one as cited by Sports Illustrated in the year 2003.

Stringer has manifested her talent by winning 825 games in 39 seasons, something the upcoming generations can only look upto rather than challenge. Known for her work- ethics and determination Stringer has a line of achievements to her credit. She was taught early the secrets of hard-work by her parents, while being brought up in the town of Edenborn, Pennsylvania.

She formed her first Final Four in 1982 with Cheney State and repeated it with Iowa in the year 1993.

She has been privileged with the honor to be 3 times national coach-of-the-year (1982, 1988, 1993) and has worked magic with sophomores and freshmen in academic institutions. She has had the kind of uncontested reputation that enabled her to be the U.S.A. Basketball coaching staff in the year 2004, for the 6th time, and served as an assistant coach for the gold-medal winning 2004 U.S. Olympic Team.

Stringer expressed her gratitude to her team players- “basketball daughters”, and commented that for a coal miner’s daughter to receive honors of Hall Of Fame Induction was “the most unusual, unexpected thing in the world.”

Michael Jordon, David Robinson, John Stockton and Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan were among others to receive the honors.
