Vettori satisfied with ‘Umpires Decision Review System’
December 17th, 2009 - 1:47 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Auckland, Dec 17(ANI): New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori has said that he is satisfied with the controversial Umpires Decision Review System, which was used during the three-test series against Pakistan.
The system allows teams to challenge the on-field officials’ decision by seeking to have it overturned by the third umpire to ensure fair decisions.
There were 30 umpiring reviews sought by players during the series, where New Zealand wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum was involved in four incidents, and got the right verdict each time.
“I was happy with it. It does not undermine the umpires’ decision-making because it has a bias towards the umpires’ original decision, which I think is fair,” The New Zealand Herald quoted Vettori, as saying.
Vettori further said that players would not automatically signal a “T” for a review at the drop of a hat, as they need to be absolutely sure to contradict the umpire.
Meanwhile, Animation Research Limited chief executive Ian Taylor reckoned that it was a satisfying start from a technological point of view.
“We’re pleased with the way it went. It’s been a baptism of fire because there was last-minute stuff that had to be modified simply for the umpiring reviews, but we’ve had really good feedback from the umpires,” Taylor said. (ANI)
