Vettori recovers from mystery illness ahead of ‘must win’ Wellington Test
January 14th, 2011 - 12:25 pm ICT by ANIWellington, Jan 14(ANI): New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori has said that he has recovered from his mystery illness, and will lead the team in the second and final Test against Pakistan in Wellington.
Visibly unwell during the second day of the first Test in Hamilton, which Pakistan won by 10 wickets, all sorts of rumours had circulated about what might be ailing the skipper.
“It’s good. I feel a lot better. It was a tough couple of days early on,” Stuff.co.nz quoted Vettori, as saying.
“I got all my test results and they’re all clear which is good. Just the first couple of days I wasn’t great. Fortunately we batted on that first day and the second day wasn’t one of my fondest days of test cricket, but I improved pretty quickly,” he added.
The 31-year-old also said that all-rounder James Franklin is a likely starter in the Test starting on Saturday.
“We obviously didn’t score enough runs (in Hamilton), but the bowling unit did a pretty good job. But sometimes if you can have that extra bowler and the likes of Franklin it allows (Chris) Martin or (Tim) Southee to be even more of a strike bowler,” Vettori said.
“They bowled pretty well, but they had a big workload so maybe the addition of Franklin will take a bit of that pressure off and they’ll be fresher for it,” he added. (ANI)
