Vettori mum on ODI future as Kiwis line up for S.Africa
March 21st, 2011 - 1:47 pm ICT by ANIMumbai, Mar. 21 (ANI): Daniel Vettori’s last one-day international for New Zealand could take place later this week in Dhaka, but the 32-year-old is keeping his cards close to his chest, and not revealing much about his future plans.”It’s not something I’ve put that much thought into. I just want to get on with these games and dealing with this injury has been my major concern at this point in time,” stuff.co.nz quoted Vettori, as saying.Vettori has always maintained he wants to be just the second cricketer in test cricket, after Kapil Dev, to take 400 wickets and score 4000 runs.
As it stands, he has played 105 Tests, taken 345 wickets and scored 4167 runs.
When he played his 100th Test in Hamilton last March, he hinted even then that while he saw a long-term future in the whites, one-day cricket would be the first to lose his services.
“I’ve always thought I’d play until I was about 35 and Test cricket is the part of the game that I want to persevere with. So, if I was ever to give away one facet, it would probably be the limited overs,” he said at the time.
The Black Caps will benefit from the addition of Vettori in their playing side this week for a must-win match.
“I should be able to get through batting and bowling all right,” Vettori said.”It’s pretty important to have a fit squad to pick from, particularly given we are two seamers down right now,” he said. (ANI)
