Veteran Marchena latest Valencia injury victim
March 20th, 2010 - 11:10 pm ICT by IANSMadrid, March 20 (DPA) Veteran Spain defender Carlos Marchena is the latest player to join Valencia’s lengthy injury list.
Marchena, 30, will be out of action for around three weeks after tearing the abductor muscle in his right leg, the club said Saturday.
He suffered the injury in Thursday’s heart-stopping 4-4 draw away to Werder Bremen, in which Valencia scraped through to the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
Valencia’s other injury victims are David Albelda, Jeremy Mathieu, David Navarro and Alejandro Dominguez.
In addition, Hedwiges Maduro and Bruno Saltor are suspended for Sunday’s league game away to in-form Almeria.
Valencia are third in La Liga, and will face Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
