London, Dec 10(ANI): Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is poised to play for another 12 months at Old Trafford, if offered a new deal by club officials.
The 39-year-old is under contract until the end of the season after signing an extension last year.
Earlier, it was widely regarded that Van der Sar would announce his retirement after the current campaign as he made way for Tomasz Kuszczak or Ben Foster.
Yet Van der Sar has told pals that he feels he would still be able to compete for the first-team slot at United and is seriously considering staying for another season, The Sun reported.
Van der Sar moved to Manchester United in June 2005 for a reported fee of two million pounds, although the exact transfer fee was undisclosed.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has considered him the best goalkeeper to play for the club since Peter Schmeichel, he has also insisted that he will give the Dutchman as long as possible to make up his mind after last term’s heroics.
The 2007-08 season was Van der Sar’s best season since his arrival; he had several great performances despite a niggling groin injury. He would help United secure their second successive Premier League title on the final day and win the Champions League by saving the final penalty of the shoot-out from Nicolas Anelka. (ANI)
